The hockey season was whistled in on Saturday November 12th. The day kicked off with the termites practicing. That was followed by the Try Hockey Free event which is held in conjunction with USA Hockey to promote the sport of ice hockey. This gives area youth the opportunity to "gear up" and get a taste of what it's like to be a hockey player. Players from the Bantam B1 and Girls 19U teams showed up with jerseys on, to help the participants on ice. There was an  excellent turnout of new and experienced skaters alike. Each participant received a stick, practice jersey and bag of hockey related items for their participation. There was also an equipment swap that was held simultaneously with this event.

Once the ice was cleared and cleaned by our zamboni man Jeff Tveberg, it was time for the main event. The Park River Red Machine Bantam B1 team kicked off the season with a rousing 7-5 victory over the Cando Odnacs. This was the 1st bantam game played by a Red Machine team in nearly 10 years. The team is small in number but make up for it in heart and determination. The Red Machine Bantams quickly showed that they will rely on speed and team play during the upcoming season. They scored several, beautiful goals that showed their ability to move the puck and find the open man. This resulted in several tap in tallies.

Thank you to all the players and participants that made this a great day! This was a small taste of what to expect from the 2016-2017 Red Machine / Warriors. Good luck on the upcoming season.
