Sales Tax Increase:
What are the sales tax funds to be used for?
General expenses to include updates, refurbishments, operational expenses, and additions to parks and grounds.
Would it be used for the future community building?
It would NOT be used for construction and engineering costs! The intent is not meant to build the community center. This will fall on private donations and grants. Should the building come to fruition, the sales tax funds would be used for maintenance and operational expenses just as it would be for other grounds and facilities within the park district.
Is it going to be used for the current pool or a future pool?
Conversations may start with the passing of a sales tax increase for the park district. Our current financial standing does not allow us to make these decisions regarding the swimming pool.
How much will an 1/2% increase generate for the park district?
Based on a 5 year average over the last five years, a 1/2% would bring in between $10,000-$12,000 per month.
Why a Sales Tax increase when the cost of living is already expensive?
Sales tax is a consistent way to bring in considerable funds for the park district. As an entity that brings in people to our community which in turn increases the economic climate for businesses, we feel it makes sense to be able to benefit from this in a way that will allow us to continue to build on the programs and facilities we have so that we are able to continue hosting events and continue to increase foot traffic for area businesses.
Area communities are doing this as a way to increase their financials and we felt taking the same path was the right decision.
